Tilton Pressure Plates for 7 1/4 (184mm) Metallic Clutches

From £87.69 Ex
Description

Tilton main and intermediate pressure plates are all available from stock with different options of pressure plates for Tilton 7 1/4" (184mm) metallic clutches.

The main pressure plate is the plate which is ridged on one side where it contacts the diaphragm spring and flat on the other side where it contacts the driven plate. There are a number of variations of this plate available.

The intermediate pressure plate or floater plate is the flat plate which sits between the driven plates on Tilton multi plate clutches. Thsi plate is the same on all Tilton 7 1/4" (184mm) metallic clutches.

Main Pressure Plate Variations

There are two different depths of main pressure plate the deeper is fitted to Tilton sintered metallic race clutches, the shallower is fitted to Tilton Cerametallic rally clutches.  The correct depth for the clutch in question must be ordered, the two depths are not interchangeable!

Main pressure plates for Tilton 7 1/4" Sintered Race Clutches have a depth of 0.534" (13.56mm), the driven plates in Tilton 7 1/4" Sintered Race Clutches are 0.104" (2.64mm) when new.

Main pressure plates for Tilton 7 1/4" Cerametallic Rally Clutches have a depth of 0.453" (11.50mm), the driven plates in Tilton 7 1/4" Cerametallic Rally Clutches are 0.283" (7.19mm) when new.

Pressure Plate Ratio
High Ratio and Ultra High Ratio versions on both depth of main pressure plate are also available.
High Ratio main pressure plates have a diaphragm spring contact diameter of 6.125" (155.6mm).
Ultra High Ratio main pressure plates have a diaphragm spring contact diameter of 5.875" (149.2mm).

As standard, Tilton 7 ¼” clutches are supplied with a High ratio main pressure plate that provides high clamp load over a wide wear range.
As illustrated in the graph below, the clamp load (torque capacity) of the High ratio pressure plate is relatively flat until .030" (.76mm) of wear. As on option, 7.25" clutches are also available with an Ultra-High ratio pressure plate. Ultra-High ratio pressure plates provide 20 percent more clamp load and diaphragm spring travel, giving greater toque capacity and increased feel/modulation than the High ratio, however they have a steeper clamp load curve meaning that torque capacity falls more dramatically with wear and the longer travel to release can cause slightly slower gear changes.
